🇬🇧 🇦🇺 🇺🇸 Zéphir Bajus (1860 – 1930)
The Editor and the Soul of Avesnes’ Music

The Renaissance of La Cécilienne
In 1894, driven by a fierce determination to make the heart of his city vibrate, he undertook the task of reconstituting « La Cécilienne. » This municipal harmony orchestra, created thirty years earlier, found in him a visionary conductor and a leader of men. Under his demanding baton, the society progressed from competition to competition, achieving the highest honors. The pinnacle of this musical saga occurred in 1923 at the Dieppe competition, where the orchestra was ranked in the first division, forever marking the cultural history of Avesnes-le-Comte.
🇬🇧 A total civic commitment:
Zéphir Bajus did not limit himself to conducting notes; he also directed the destiny of his community as Mayor of Avesnes-le-Comte from 1925 to 1929. He passed away on Sunday, March 16, 1930, at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy and an image of absolute dedication.
A Perpetuated Heritage
The torch of creation did not go out with him. His son, Louis Bajus, succeeded him, embracing the same passion for composition. Admitted to the Society of Authors at the age of 17, Louis wrote an abundant work of great musical finesse. Tragically, this lineage of composers was shattered by the chaos of history; Louis fell in combat during the war of 1940, taking with him a part of the Bajus family’s musical future.
